The rival line is being pushed through by a rival company and the success of either line depends on which one crosses a certain divide first. Bradley's son Rodney, who is in love with Mabel Saunders, daughter of David Saunders, is sent by the rival company to see that their line is pushed through first. "Big Bill" Stevens, a regular roughneck, is sent out by Saunders and told to push the line through regardless of expense. Mabel learns that her father is plotting against Rodney, so she follows him into the great west and hovers over him.
