Many people were returning from distant parts of the world, not expecting that they would become victims of an attack close to home by bandits roaming the area. Thrown from the train, robbed and finally killed, they increased the number of those supposedly missing during the war. The inhabitants of nearby towns knew about what was happening in the forest.
