Studying in Europe, she did not participate in the Modern Art Week of 1922. On her return to the country, she joined the modernists Anita Malfatti, Mário de Andrade, Menotti del Picchia and Oswald de Andrade, with whom she married. His paintings inspired the "Pau Brasil" and "Antropofágico" movements, with themes, shapes and colors taken from the memory of his childhood on coffee farms in the interior of São Paulo.
