Shot in the areas where the old Edo was that now are some of the poorest parts of the contemporary Tokyo, I've imagined three ghosts: the first one is from the inventor, painter and writer Hiraga Gennai who was one of the first Japanese to study and acknowledge the Rangaku, the Dutch Arts from the West and introduce in Japan many new inventions, and it has been shot in the little garden where there is his grave in Kyokawa. On the grave is written . ' an extraordinary death for an extraordinary man ' because Gennai killed one of his disciples and died right after in prison... The second Ghost is the from the Oiran, the highly respected Queen of the prostitutes from the old Edo pleasures district of Yoshiwara and it has been shot in the sites of the temple of protecting Goddess of the females who used to work in Yoshiwara. This ghost dances quietly in a timeless way following the course of traditions. The third ghost appears in the remains of the infamous Kozukappara field where there used to be for centuries a prisoner and execution camp, now surrounded by many train lines and buildings. Is the ghost of another Dutch Arts expert: the anatomist and doctor Sugita Genpaku who used to dissect the corpses there. Written by Anonymous See less
