However, the life awaiting them was full of difficulty. When he came of age in 1878, Donald headed west and worked as a cowboy, sending money to his parents to pay off the debt on their homestead. Donald's life began to unravel when the owner of the mortgage on the farm claimed that the payments had never been made and the family, unable to read the English contract, were evicted from their property. This documentary tells Donald's story as he finds himself wanted for arson and murder and hides from an aggressive manhunt, sheltered by his rural community, in a life that is still celebrated today.
