Abstract
1,039,832. Electric resistance heating. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. June 26, 1963 [June 27, 1962], No. 25363/63. Heading H5H. In an electrically heated film evaporator for dehydrating caustic alkali solutions, the evaporator tube 1 is heated by passing a current directly through it by means of contact plates 2, 3. A roughened or tapped portion distributes the incoming solution on the inner surface of the tube. A fan (not shown) is coupled to the upper end of the tube to draw off water vapour. In the embodiment described, the tube is 7 m. long, 70 mm. i.d. with 6 m. between plates. Several tubes may be connected in series. The tube wall thickness may vary to alter the evaporation rate of portions of the tube. It is suggested that solutions should be concentrated to 71% by cheaper energy sources before the solutions are fed to the tube.
