Abstract

1,095,643. Road traffic signals. L. CHORLTON & CO. Ltd. April 27, 1966 [Feb. 6, 1965], No. 5262/65. Heading E1G. [Also in Division F4] A portable warning sign for controlling traffic e.g. at crossings used by schoolchildren, consists of a disc 10 mounted on a shaft 18 and bearing appropriate indicia, the disc being illuminated by a lamp 16 in a red or amber cover and connected to batteries 24 inside the shaft 18, controlled by a switch 34. The shaft may also contain a flasher unit 36 in the circuit of the lamp, the unit incorporating a mercury switch which maintains the circuit open unless the shaft is held within about 30‹ of the vertical.
