Abstract

1,187,496. Flotation conveyers; endless conveyers. TSUBAKIMOTO CHAIN MFG. CO. Ltd. 1 May, 1967 [30 April, 1966], No. 19904/67. Heading B8A. Articles, such as sheets 4, being conveyed along a gaseous cushion conveyer M may be diverted to a branch conveyer B by a deflecting mechanism. In the embodiment shown, the deflecting mechanism comprises a pair of driven endless chains 17 supporting resilient pads 16 and mounted on a frame which is pivotally supported at one end 19 and, at the other end is supported by a ram 10. On extending the ram, the pads 16 are lowered into engagement with the upper surfaces of the sheets 4 which are thereby diverted on to the conveyer branch B. The articles are driven along the gaseous cushion conveyer by conveyer chains, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the chains 17 run in guides, the end sections of which are pivotable about a horizontal axis. The chains may be replaced by an endless belt. In further embodiments, Figs. 9-12 (not shown), the deflecting mechanism comprises driven rollers or a driven endless belt adapted to be raised through an aperture in the conveyer M to engage the undersides of the sheets to propel them in the direction of the branch conveyer. In the embodiments of Figs. 2, 8 (not shown), the deflecting mechanism comprises a reciprocating pusher adapted to engage the edge or upper surface, respectively, of the sheet.
