Abstract

1354422 Cartons FEDERAL PAPER BOARD CO Inc 5 Aug 1971 [10 Aug 1970] 36782/71 Heading B8P Paperboard cartons for bottles are folded from blanks arranged in four rows across a web fed from a roll the blanks interfitting to reduce wastage (Fig. 4) and to enable straight line gluing machines to be employed. Handle portions 22 and bottom forming flaps 21 extend from opposite sides of each blank and are no greater than one quarter of the length of each blank to ensure that the blanks will interfit. Sides 20 are cut so that on erection, dividers 27, 28 form bottle receiving compartments. The lines of glue are heat activated and the handle portion is of double thickness. The adhesive may be applied during a printing operation or when the paperboard is unrolled and fed to a die cutting press which cuts out the blanks. The carton can be collapsed flat and when applied over the top of a group of bottles results in a tighter fit than when bottles are lowered into a carton and allowance has to be made for loading fingers.
