Abstract

1413541 Feeding sheets XEROX CORP 9 Feb 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 6444/73 Heading B8R A sheet 31 is separated from the top of a pile by a friction belt 2 which advances the sheet over a friction retard member 10 which member holds back succeeding sheets 32-35. A wall 50 prevents the bulk of the pile from moving with the belt. The belt may be supported on a pivotally mounted carriage and spring-urged into contact with the pile (Fig. 14, not shown). Alternatively the pile support may be pivotally mounted and spring urged into contact with the belt (Fig. 13, not shown). In a further form, Fig. 16, the pile support is pivotally mounted at 95 so that the weight of the pile urges the pile towards the belt. A friction belt 97 is advanced over the retard member 10 to provide a wear surface. A curved jaw member 96 prevents movement of the stack. A friction roller separator may act on the opposite edge of the stack to the friction belt 2. In a further form the pile may be on edge (Fig. 15, not shown).
