Abstract

1473308 Resin coatings on cementitious surfaces MONIER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PTY Ltd 10 Feb 1975 [15 Nov 1973 (2)] 53046/73 and 53047/73 Heading B2E A building element (e.g. tile, slab or cladding) having a formed cementitious surface is coated with a non-saponifiable film-forming coating material dissolved in a non-aqueous solvent with or without plasticisers and/or pigments, the coating being applied e.g. by pouring, dipping, brushing or preferably spraying, before at least the surface of the element has undergone any curing or loss of water. Suitable cementitious surface material is Portland cement optionally mixed with sand and/or coarse aggregate. Alternatively such cementitious material is coated with a cementitious surface layer e.g. of mortar, or of Portland cement optionally mixed with a pigment. Suitable film-forming materials are acrylic and vinyl polymers and copolymers, chlorinated rubber, chlorinate polyethylene, and chlorinated polypropylene. Polyesters and paraffins are mentioned as plasticisers.
