Abstract

1493586 Matrix displays TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Ltd 20 Nov 1974 50330/74 Heading G5C [Also in Division G2] A display device comprises a plate 1 supporting an array of light emitting elements 5A, 5D, a diffusing screen 3 and an optical system which projects light from the elements on to the screen to form an enlarged image of energized elements. As shown LEDs are arranged on a semiconductor substrate in a figure of eight array of bars or dots. The optical system comprises a non-spherical lens of injection moulded plastics material and a prism 14 with a reflecting surface 4. Alternatively the elements 5 may be segments of a cold cathode discharge device.
