Abstract
A predictive control circuit (16) is provided to predict the filament current necessary to be produced by a filament current controller (14) to provide a desired anode current in an X-ray tube (10 or 11) when a known anode voltage is applied by a high voltage power supply (12), during the interval, immediately following the application of the anode voltage, in which feedback control is inadequate. The control circuit comprises means arranged to compute a filament current control signal if in accordance with the relationship <IMAGE> where u represents the pre-emission filament current of the tube; KI<w>a is a baseline term, and <IMAGE> is a term representative of the effects of spacecharge in the tube.
