Abstract
237,609. Siemens & Ilalske Akt.-Ges. July 24, 1924, [Convention date]. Rolling.-In a rolling-mill, particularly for rolling metals of high fusion point such as tantalum, tungsten &c., the work 7 is heated in a furnace 6 located immediately above the rolls 1, 2, which are driven by gearing 3, 4, from an electromotor 5. To avoid chemical action the work passes to the furnace through a gas lock which may be filled with a rare gas for rolling tantalum or with hydrogen for rolling tungsten. The rolls are mounted in brackets 13, 14, and the pass is adjusted by rods 11, 12 operated from worm gearing 8. The rolls are normally pressed apart by a resilient device 15. The whole mill may be preheated, the bearings being cooled if necessary by circulating-liquid, and the mill may be covered by a hood to enable the rolling to be effected in an inert gas.
