Abstract

525,663. Seats. ILLINGWORTH, H. G. Feb. 25, 1939, No. 6252. [Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable seat for a motor car is so arranged that it may be turned and simultaneously tilted and moved laterally to facilitate the entering or leaving the seat by its occupant. The seat 2, Fig. 1, is fixed upon a plate 2b carrying a pin 3d, Fig. 5, rotating within a bearing member 2d pivotally connected with a plate 3 by screws 3c, Fig. 6, passing through extensions 3a, 3b. Two other extensions 4a, 4b on the plate 3 carry adjustable screws 4c having heads engaging an eccentric 3f. Rotation of the eccentric causes the bearing 2d to tilt about the screws 3c to bring the front of the seat downwards. On the under surface of the seat is a connecting rod 7, Fig. 2, pivoted at 5a to the seat and at 5b to a plate 5, so that when the seat is turned about the pin 2d the plate 5 slides in guides 6 towards the front of the car thus bring- . ing the seat in its turned portion towards the door of the car. A spring 9 is provided to bring the seat towards the door when it is unoccupied and the door opened, an additional spring 10 returning it to its normal position when the door is closed. In a modification the plate 3 is provided with an annular member having cam surfaces engaging corresponding cam surfaces in the seat to tilt it on rotation, a latch being provided to hold the seat in its normal position.
