[Class 39 (iii)] The tubular heating element 1, comprising a coiled resistance enclosed in a metallic sheath and insulated therefrom, is bent back on itself to form a flat heater the wattage dissipations per square inch of area being between 30 and 100, and the sheath being made of a refractory alloy melting at not less than 1200‹C. A suitable heating element is that of the Backer type described in Specifications 336,949, [Class 39 (iii)], and 462,280. The ends of the resistance are secured in a cast iron clamp 2 held together by a screw 4.
