Abstract
552,956. Two-stroke cycle engines. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 29, 1941, No. 13916. Convention date, Jan. 8. [Class 7 (ii)] In an engine with opposed pistons 2, 3 reciprocating in the cylinder 1 with the same length of stroke and acting on separate crankshafts 6, 7 which rotate at the same speed, the pistons 2, 3 respectively control exhaust and inlet ports 11, 12 and the connecting-rod 4 of the piston 2 is longer than that of the piston 3, in order to facilitate dismantling of the pistons and their connecting-rods without removing the other moving parts. As shown, the crankshaft 6 is laterally displaced with respect to the axis of the cylinder. In a modification, the upper end of the cylinder is provided with a sleeve forming a removable extension.
