Abstract
701,593. Centrifugal separators. HOWDEN & CO.; Ltd., J. Feb. 27, 1952 [Feb. 28, 1951], No. 4842/51. Class 23 In a multi-cell cyclone separator comprising a primary separator having cells of the straight flow type and a secondary separator having cells of the return flow type, all the dust discharged from the primary separator is led by a duct to the secondary separator, and the clean gas from the secondary separator is withdrawn by a suction fan. Gas to be cleaned from a duct. 10 passes through the primary cells 11 which discharge clean gas into a duct 16. The dust discharged from slots 19 in the primary cells is led by the duct 29 to the inlets 23 of the secondary cells 22. All the separated dust is discharged from the secondary cells to a hopper 32. The clean gas from the secondary cells is discharged into the ducts 10 or 16 by the fan 31. The separator may be provided with a central partition 47 and dampers 45, 46 so that part of the separator may be isolated whilst the other part is operated. Inspection doors may be provided at A, B, C. In a modification Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the separator is arranged between vertical ducts in which the gas flows downwardly. The cells are arranged vertically, groups formed by double rows of primary cells being interspaced by groups formed by double rows of secondary cells placed at lower, level. The dust is discharged from each group of secondary cells by hoppers which project through the wall of the clean gas duct. In a further modification, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), the separator is arranged for upward gas flow. Groups formed by single rows of primary cells are interspaced by groups formed by single rows of secondary cells placed at the same level. The dust is discharged by hoppers which project through the walls of the dust laden gas supply duct.
