Abstract

A gasoline composition contains 0.003-0.009 per cent of glyceryl mono-oleate. The gasoline may be a straight-run or thermally or catalytically cracked petroleum distillate or may be a polymerized, alkylated or hydrogenated hydrocarbon or a gasoline refined, for example, by acid extraction or solvent treatment. Metalloorganic anti-knock agents, e.g. tetraethyl lead, organic halide lead scavengers such as ethylene dichloride or dibromide; polyalkylated phenols as antioxidants, e.g. 2, 6-diteritiary butyl p-cresol, 2, 4-6-tributyl phenol and 2, 4-dimethyl-6-sec. butyl phenol; pre-ignition inhibitors such as esters or phosphorus acids, e.g. triphenyl, tricresyl, trimethyl and diphenyl cresyl phosphates, trimethyl phosphite and tri-b -chloro-propyl thionophosphate; metal deactivators such as Schiff bases e.g. N, N1-disalicylal 1, 2-propylene diamine may be added to the compositions. The effect of the addition of glyceryl mono-oleate to the gasoline is compared with that of glyceryl dioleate, glyceryl, monolaurate and diethylene glycol monolaurate.
