Abstract
The invention comprises polysiloxane azo dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/1> where R is an aryl radical, Ar is an arylene radical, X is hydrogen or an alkyl radical, V is an alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aryloxy radical, a is at least 3 and n is 0, 1 or 2. They are prepared by coupling a diazonium salt of an aromatic primary amine with a functional arylaminoalkylsilane of the type disclosed in Specification 882,052 and hydrolyzing the product. The aryl and arylene radicals may be substituted by a variety of radicals and many examples are given of suitable starting materials. The dyes are soluble in weakly basic mixtures of water and organic solvents, in aqueous acids and in organic solvents. The presence of solubilizing radicals, such as sulpho or carboxy radicals, provides some solubility in water alone. Metal complexes of the dyes may be produced. The examples describe the preparation of siloxanes having the following formulae: <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/2> <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/3> <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/4> <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/5> <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/6> <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/7> <FORM:0882066/IV (a)/8> Specification 882,062 also is referred to.
