Abstract

976,172 Sampling granular material. CONSOLIDATED PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. Ltd. Jan. 28, 1964 [Jan. 31, 1963], No. 3992/63. Heading B8N. A sampling apparatus for extracting samples from a bulk of granular material, such as small coal, comprises an auger 10 rotatable within a sleeve 13 and having agitating blades 27 and helical lands such that when the auger is rotated, such as by an electric motor, material is disturbed by the blades and propelled by the lands up the sleeve where it is delivered through an aperture 24. The auger 10 is connected to an adapter 19 which is rotatable in a bush 16 secured to the sleeve by a screw 18, the auger being prevented from axial movement by means of a collar 12 and flange 23. The end of the sleeve may be formed as a replaceable head 26 of hard material. Several sampling devices may be mounted side-by-side on a frame and lowered into a truck of coal.
