Abstract

990,587. Filtering gases. DUST CONTROL EQUIPMENT Ltd. Sept. 24, 1963 [Sept. 25, 1962], No. 36329/62: Heading BIT. In a gas filtering apparatus of the kind comprising a series of flat sided filter pads each including an open mouthed permeable bag containing a supporting grid to prevent collapse of the bag during filtering and utilizing a reverse flow jet pulse cleaning system, each filter pad is confined by restrainer elements which prevent the filter bag from ballooning during the cleaning. In the embodiment described, the cleaning pulse is of 350 milli-seconds duration, at a pressure of 86 p.s.i., and by preventing the bags from ballooning, the pressure rise within the bag is increased from 5À5 to 7À6 inches w.g. Air to be cleaned, originating from grinding, cutting or polishing machines used in the engineering, chemical and food industries, enters through inlet 2 and passes to two parallel banks of filter pads B, B<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, and then via filter pad outlets 6 to a chamber 16 and clean air outlet 3. The cleaning pulses are fed to the filter pads via conduits 18 from a high pressure reservoir 19 controlled by an automatically operated solenoid 20. A typical filter restrainer is shown in Fig. 5, and includes cross braces 23 connecting the two sides ; a similar form of wire mesh grid is also used inside the filter bags. Alternatively (Fig. 6, not shown), a number of wire straps are placed around the bag. A further embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) uses a filter restrainer similar to that of Fig. 5, except that it is open at one end. Specifications 943,100 and 974,144 are referred to.
