PATENT OFFICE.
41301313 MUELLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SANITARY SEAT COVER.
Application filed December 30, 1927. Serial No. 243,526.
The main object of this invention is the provision of a sanitary protective cover for commode seats with the aim to protect the user against contact with the interior or walls of the commode, as well as to prevent soiling of the walls.
Another object of the invention is the provision of such a protective cover with relatively long walls hanging through the center of the seat.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of an adjustable flap in the front wall of the cover, so that the PI'OtQCtlIl" length and area of this wall may be extended or reduced according to the size of the user.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in Which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing. v
Referring briefly to the drawing,Fig. 1 1s a front elevational view, partly in section, of a commode with the cover in place.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the adjustable flap in detail.
*iefcrring in detail to the drawing,- the numeral 10 represents a commode to which the usual seat is hinged at 12. The seat 13 has the usual opening about its center.
The cover of this invention is represented generally at 1 1-, and is preferably made of paper having the consistency of the usual paper towel. The edges of the cover are rounded over,'as shown at 15, to cover the seat entirely. Walls 16 hang through the center of the seat, at the front and back of the opening, and of a width substantially as shown in Fig. 2. The forward wall 16 is provided with a horizontal slot near its lower end, and through this slot a flap 17 passes and is frictionally secured. The
upper end ofthe flap is bent into a handlelike projecting lip 18, by which it may be grasped to draw the flap upward.
That portion of the cover which rests upon the upper surface of the seat, protects the seat against soiling and also prevents contact of the user with the seat. The rounded edges 15 protect the edges of the seat. The alls 16 prevent soiling of the inner walls of the commode. The flap 17 may be raised by grnsping the lip 18, and lo wered bypgnaspmg ine lower end or the flap. This flap assures protection of the front wall of the commode regardless of the size of the user.
Having thus described the invention, what claimed is as follows:
1. An article of the class described comprising a member adapted to cover the upper surface of a commode seat, said member being curved at the periphery to conform to the curvature of the edges of the seat, said member having a central opening adapted to register with the opening in the seat, the periphery of the opening in the member being curved to conform to the curvature of the seat opening, walls hanging from said memher through the. opening into the commode and adjustable means in one of said walls for varying the depth of said wall.
2. An article'of the class described comprising a member adapted to cover the upper surface of a commode seat, said member having a central opening adapted to register with the opening in the scat, front and rear walls hanging from the member through the opening into the commode, said front wall being slotted, a flap frictionally mounted in said slotted wall, said lap being adapted to be moved to vary the depth of the wall.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ADOLF MUELLER.
