BELT BUCKLE.

This invention relates to improvements in belt buckles, and has particular reference to a one piece belt buckle construction wherein the conventional pivoted tongue is eliminated, and the belt buckle embodies therein construction that will assure a positive gripping of the free end of the belt so that danger of the belt slipping will be eliminated.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a one piece belt buckle construction that is readily adjustable to various girths and which is economical in construction, ornamental and attractive in appearance. durable and highly efficient in use.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the use of the conventional type of belt buckle wherein the pivoted tongue is employed, it has been found that after prolonged use, the tongue will cause an enlargement of the retaining holes and thatit can only be adjusted to suit the comfort of the wmrer by the annoying operation of transferring the tongue upon the buckle to one of the additional holes in the belt.

This type oi buckle is also not adjustable in itself so as to allow for the comfort of the wearer. In the present article I have devised a one-piece buckle construction which can be readily adjusted to suit the wearers girth and which when receiving the free end of the belt, will due to the unique construction employed, positively retain the belt end in the desired position, and will eliminate the tearing of the belt as is experienced when the tongue type of belt buckle is used.

to conform to the general contour of the body oi the wearer. This blank is provided wlth openings (3, 7 and 8, which are preterably struck from the blank with the result that cross bars 9 and 11 are left.

By referring to the figures, it will be noted that the cross bar 11 is offset from the main body oi the blank, the purpose of which will be later seen. By now referring to Figure 3 it will. be noted that the opening 8 is formed upon an angle so as to form gripping edges 12 and 13. The result of this construction is that when one end of the belt 1 1- secured to the cross bar 11 by being looped therearound and secured as shown at 16, the opposite end oi? the belt designated by the numeral 17, is led beneath the blank thence through the opening 8, thence over the bars 9 and 11, thence through the openinc (5 so that the free end again engages the belt. Iln passing through the opening 8, it will be obvious that the gripping portions 12 and 13 will. engage the belt in such a way that slippage thereof will be impossible, the harder the belt is pulled the tighter will be the gripping action and consequently the wearer may adjust the belt to any tightness about the body.

It will thus be seen that I have produced a belt buckle which will accomplish all the objects above set forth.

It is to be underi-itood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.

Having thus described my invention, I claim A buckle frame curved in the same direction from end to end comprising four trans verse bars and having; provided therein three intermediate slots, said transverse bars being connected by two side bars. three of said transverse bars all lying on the curve. with the fourth. or anchoring bar being o'lii'set from said curve and with respect to the three first mentioned bars, one of said cross bars and the adjacent end bar having their opposed edges beveled upon the same angle whereby gripping" edges are provided upon the opposite surfaces of the buckle frame.
