Description
Nov. 11, 1930. M. H. PLACE 1,781,078
FASTENING DEVICE Filed May 27. 1929 INVENTOR. I'H Q RGUERITE H PLHCE TORNEY Patented Nov. 11, 1930 r; STATES UNI MARGUERIT'E H. PLACE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA FASTENING DEVICE 'Application filed May 27, 1929. Serial No. 366,503.
This invention relates to improvements in fastening devices and has particular reference to a device for holding the-end of a sanitary napkin.
A further object is to produce a device which is simple in construction and yet one which will have a positive gripping.
A still further object is to produce a device which will occupy a minimum amount of space and will therefore not produce an unsightly bulge in the clothes.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of" the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the two rings comprising my fastening device,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of both rings,
Figure 3 is a cross sectional View showing the manner in which the rings are employed, and
Figure d is a fragmentary front elevation showing the rings in use.
At the present time it is common to employ various means for fastening sanitary napkins to belts by using safety pins and the like which easily become unfastened and a safety pin when strain is placedupon it will cause an unsightly bulge and it is to overcome these difliculties that applicant has devised her invention. V
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a ring of ordinary con struction, and the numeral 6 designates a second ring having a button 7' formed thereon; It is obvious that these rings might be hexagonal shape or any other convenient shape, the only requirement being that they may be placed one upon the other as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4.
Referring to Figure 3, the numeral 8 designates one tab of a supporting belt having a loop 9 passing through the rings 5 and 6. The numeral 11 designates a portion of a sanitary napkin wherein the end 12 is passed through the rings 5 and 6 and then downwardly between the rings 5 and 6 so that the end 13 underlies that portion of the ring 6 having the button 7 thereon. The button pressing into the material forms a pocket with the result that the material draws around the button and automatically secures itself against withdrawal. The action while hard to illustrate is similar to grasping one edge of a pocket handkerchief between the thumb and fingers and then by pulling upon the handkerchief with the other hand, it will be noted that a pocket is formed about the end of the thumb in a manner similar to the pocket formed by applicants button 7.
It will thus be seen that with my device the end of the napkin can be readily placed through the rings and easily adjusted in a manner which is both quick and efficient.
It is to be understood that the form of invention herein shown and described is 'to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim. i
Having thus claim r I V v I In a device of the character described, a' ring, a second ring superimposed on said first mentioned ring, means for maintaining said rings in superimposed position but slidable upon the other, a button formed on said first described my invention, I
mentioned ring, said button extending away from said superimposed ring whereby material encircling said superimposed ring and underlying said first mentioned ring'will be engaged by said button. 7
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MARGUERITE HJPLAOE.
