dClaims. 1
This invention relates-to costume jewelry, and more particularly to a holder ioravanity-case adapted to'be detachably securedato an article of wearing apparel.
In the present day-fashions of womens clothing, it is well known that there is no convenient place for carrying a vanity case, compact, or other similar article, and, therefore, one purpose of the present invention is to provide a simple and efiicient holder for a vanity case, which holder may be detachably secured to the wearing apparel in such a manner-as to permit the vanity case to be readily removed therefrom.
G-ne object of the present invention isto providea holder and a vanity case which may be detachably secured togetheriin an artistic and decorative manner to form a piece of ,costume jewelry.
A further object is to provide a vanity case and holder therefor, which may be detachably pinned upon any desired part of a womans clothing.
A further object is to provide a composite article of costume jewelry which will facilitate the use of a vanity case, avoid the necessity of carrying it in the hand or in a pocketbook, and reduce the risk of it being mislaid.
A further object is to provide an article of costume jewelry comprising a detachable vanity case and holder which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, compact, ornamental in appearance, and very efiicient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in View, there has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, one form in which this invention may conveniently be embodied in practice.
In the drawing, consisting of one sheet of seven figures, numbered Figs. 1 to 7, inclusive;
Fig. l is a front view of the improved vanity case holder embodying the invention, as it appears when a vanity case is assembled therein;
Fig. 2 is a side View of the same;
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the same;
Fig. 4 is a top view of the same;
Fig. 5 is a top view of the holder with the vanity case removed;
Fig. 6 is a side view of the same; and
Fig. '7 is a front view of the same.
Referring now to the drawing in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral I ii indicates the lower pointed end of a heartshaped vanity case 0, which is adapted to be detachably received in a holder I 3. The holder :2 13 has three resilient icurved forwardly-extending ears-l i'2,;and- :4, preferably made integral therewith.
These ears are arranged at suitably spaced points upon the edge ofthe holder 13, so as .to detachably secure the heart-shaped vanity case C therein. The top resilient ear M of the holder 13 is .adaptedto engage in a central recess 15 formed at the top. of the vanity case- C, -andthe bottom ears 1 land 12 arelocated above ;.the point It of the vanitycase C. v
.A pair of spaced parallel slits- !"el8, are. out into the'holder. E3 .atthesides of the upper-ear 5- (see Fig. 7), to increasev theresiliency thereof. The side edges of theftopof the holder 13 are preferably bent upwardly and outwardly to form curved walls 23 and 26 which are. adapted toreceivethe curvededge walls of-the vanity case C. Theholder E3, the curvedside v a-115,23 ,and 24, and the resilient ears H, [2, and It, in conjunction, form a concave detachable seat or mountfor the vanity case 0.
The vanity case C preferably includes a cover or lid I 1 provided with suitable hinges i8l8 for pivotal connection to the base of said vanity case C.
The holder i3 is adapted to be detachably secured to an article of wearing apparel (not shown) in suitable manner, as by means of a pointed pin i9, which may be mounted upon the rear side of the holder i3 as by means of the pivot 23. The garment attachment pin is may be provided with any suitable closure or clasp, such as the conventional fastener catch 2 i The cover or lid ll of the vanity case C may likewise be locked in closed position in any suitable manner, as by means of the conventional spring clip '22 (see Figs. 1 and 3).
Operation To attach the vanity case C to the wearing apparel the cover i? is first closed to bring the spring clip 22 into locking position. The pointed lower end iii of the vanity case is then inserted between the resilient ears I! and 52 of the holder :3, thus bringing the recess l5 at the top of the vanity case C into registry with the top resilient ear M of the holder 13. The vanity case C may now be pressed towards the holder I3 until the recess i5 snaps underneath the top resilient ear E4 of the holder l3, thus seating the vanity case C firmly in said holder.
To detach the vanity case C from the holder [3, the top of the vanity case will be pulled away from the holder, thus forcing the resilient ear l4 outwardly until it disengages the recess 15 at the top of said vanity case. The pointed lower end 10 of the vanity case C may now be lifted and withdrawn from between the spaced bottom resilient ears H and I2. The sprin clip 22 may then be released, and the cover or lid I! opened to permit access to the contents of the vanity case.
After using the vanity case, the cover I! will be closed upon its hinges l8, l8 until the clip 22 snaps into place upon said cover. The vanity case C may now be returned to the holder 13 in the manner previously described.
It will be understood that the holder 13 may, if desired, be first separately attached to the article of wearing apparel, and the vanity case C thereafter sprung into place. Similarly the vanity case C may be removed from the holder l3 without removing the holder from the garment to which it is attached, and the vanity case, if desired, may be used without the holder l3 which may be left fastened upon the garment.
While there has been disclosed in this specification, one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this form is shOWn for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosure, but may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all of the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully rescribed the invention, what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is:
1. In an article of costume jewelry, a holder for a vanity case comprising a pair of forwardly-extending concave bottom ears adapted to engage around the lower edges of a vanity case, a pair of forwardly-extending concave upper wall portions adapted to shield the upper portion of the rear wall of the vanity case, said wall portions being entirely open and unobstructed toward the front of said holder, a forwardly-extending concave upwardly yieldable upper ear disposed between said upper wall portions and adapted to engage around the upper edge of the vanity case to permit said case to be inserted in said holder with a rearward swinging motion, and an attaching pin upon the rear wall of the holder for securing the holder to a garment.
2. The invention as defined in claim 1, in which said upper ear is resilient, and said bottom ears are relatively rigid.
3. The invention as defined in claim 1, in which slits are provided between said upper ear and said upper wall portions whereby the resiliency of said upper ear is augmented.
4. The invention as defined in claim 1, in combination with a vanity case of flattened heartshape, said upper wall portions embracing and conforming to the shape of the lobes of said heartshaped case, and said upper ear bein disposed below the tops of said lobes and releasably engaging in the top central recess therebetween.
