A63b 53/06 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Golf club heads having different lofts are interchangeably securable to a single club shaft. An extension on each club head fits into a slot in the club shaft. A screw centrally secured to the extension passes through the shaft centrally of the slot. A fastening nut has a' spherical portion which mates with a spherical depression on the shaft.

This invention relates to golf clubs, and more particularly an interchangeable head for golf clubs.

It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide an interchangeable head for golf clubs which is conveniently attachable and removable from the club shaft without any mechanical tools.

Another object of this invention is to provide an interchangeable head for golf clubs thereby simulating a standard wood club, iron club, and putter, yet producing substantially identical results as the previously mentioned clubs.

Another object of this invention i to provide an interchangeable head for golf clubs which is easy to store and does not require a golf cart or services of a caddy.

Still another object of this invention is to provide an interchangeable head for golf clubs, which is of rigid construction, inexpensive to manufacture, does not require golf bags and provides maximum utility to its user.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.

According to this invention, an interchangeable head for golf clubs is provided with a substantially elongated shaft 11 having a ferrule 12 thereon for balancing club 10. Bottom portion 13 of shaft 11 is provided with a slot 18 and a hole 19, which lot 18 is adapted to admit the outwardly extending portion 20 of club head unit 14. Unit 14 may take any shape or configuration, since it is adapted to represent wood, iron and putter heads. A threaded screw 15 is secured to portion 20 of head unit 14 and is adapted to be positioned through hole 19 when head unit 14 and its outward portion 20 is secured within slot 18. Securing nut 16 is provided with a hole 21 having threaded portion therein and being adapted to mate with the threaded portion of screw 15 thereby securing head unit 14 and its outward portion 20 within the bottom portion 13 of shaft 11.

Looking now at FIGURE 1 of the drawing, one will see that nut 16 is provided with a cutout portion 17 which provides the grasping means for a person who intends to insert club head unit 14 into slot 18 and hole 19, for tightening nut 16 within recess 22 of the bottom portion 13. If it is intended to remove head unit 14 from shaft 11 securing nut 16 is turned in the opposite direction from the previously described one, thus releasing screw 15 from hole 19 and outward portion 20 of head unit 14 from recess 18. As it can be seen from the previous passages of the description and the drawing there is no need for any mechanical means, such as, wrench, etc. for securing head unit 14 to bottom portion 13 of shaft 11 or removing said unit therefrom.

What I new claim is:

1. An improved golf club, comprising in combination, an elongated shaft having first and second ends, a handle secured to said first end of said shaft, a plurality of golf club heads of different lofts interchangeably securable to said second end of said shaft, means for securing each of said heads selectively to said second end of said shaft, said securing means comprising an elongated slot on one side of said second end of said shaft, said slot being elongated longitudinally of said shaft, a passage extending transversely through said second end of said shaft from an area on the outer surface of said shaft to a center portion of said slot, said passage opening into said slot, said area of said shaft including a spherically dished depression encircling said passage and communicating therewith, each of said club heads having an extension secured thereto, said extension having a shape corresponding to the shape of said slot so as to be receivable in said slot and prevent rotation of the club head to which it is secured, said extension having secured to a central portion thereof a screw inserta'ble through said transversely extending passage, said slot having a length substantially greater than the diameter of said passage, and a nut threadingly securable upon said screw, said nut including a spherical portion having a contour which corresponds with the contour of said dished depression.
