Abstract

A device, especially adapted for incorporation in telephones and teleprinters in which a preset cassette is inserted into a reader and is operable to control pulse developing circuit means so as to emit a series of pulses programmed in conformity with the preset condition of the respective cassette.

Claims (35)

1. A pulse emitting device especially adapted for use in telephone and teleprinter systems and the like and operable for emitting pulses for transport in the system; said device comprising a casing, a plurality of switches in said casing, switch control elements adapted for cooperation with said switches and adjustable in said casing, scanning means in the casing connected to said switches and operable to scan the switches sequentially, a control device insertable into operative position in said casing and including adjustable members operable to cooperate with said control elements to position said control elements relative to said switches upon insertion of said control device into said casing, pulse generating means connected to and under the control of said scanning means and operable for generating pulses in conformity with the positions of said control elements relative to said switches, and means for initiating operation of said scanning means when said control device is inserted into operative position in said casing.
2. A pulse emitting device according to claim 1 in which said control device comprises a cassette, and said adjustable members comprise pins adjustably mounted in said cassette.
3. A pulse emitting device according to claim 2 in which each pin has one adjusted position in the respective cassette in which it does not move the respective control element into switching position.
4. A pulse emitting device according to claim 2 in which each pin has one adjusted position in the respective cassette in which the interval between successive pulses generated by said pulse generating means is modified.
5. A pulse emitting device according to claim 2 in which each pin has an adjusted position in the respective cassette in which a pulse sequence being generated by said pulse generating means is interrupted.
6. A pulse emitting device according to claim 5 which includes means for resuming said pulse sequence following said interruption thereof.

A pulse emitting device according to claim 2 which includes a slider pertaining to each control element, each slider at one end being engageable with the end of the respective pin, a contact spring on the end of each slider remote from the pin end thereof operable to cooperate with said switches to perform switching operations in the adjusted positions of said slider when said cassette is in operative position in said casing.

A pulse emitting device according to claim 2 in which said switches comprise parallel spaced opposed arrays of contact strips mounted in said casing with one array extending in the direction of insertion of said cassette and the other array extending angularly thereto, a slider in the casing pertaining to each pin and adjusted in conformity with the adjusted position of the pin when the cassette is inserted into said casing, and a forked contact spring on each slider adapted to engage a respective contact strip in each said array in adjusted positions of said slider.
9. A pulse emitting device according to claim 2 which includes cooperating elements of detent means on said pins and said cassette to retain said pins in predetermined adjusted positions in said cassette.
10. A pulse emitting device according to claim 9 in which said cassette comprises upper and lower portions slidably engageable with each other.
11. A pulse emitting device according to claim 7 in which each slider includes a stud projecting therefrom, and means for engaging said studs to return all of said sliders to an end position thereof.
12. A pulse emitting device according to claim 11 which includes a cassette holder reciprocable in said casing, and including pin elements For engaging holes in said cassette to lock the cassette to the holder.

A pulse emitting device according to claim 12 in which said means for engaging said studs is connected to said cassette holder whereby the withdrawing of said cassette holder from the casing resets all of said sliders, said casing including guide means for guiding said holder therein during the insertion and withdrawal of said cassette.
14. A pulse emitting device according to claim 12 in which said cassette holder has a planar support surface for receiving said cassette.
15. A pulse emitting device according to claim 13 in which said casing includes a stop bar engageable with said lugs on the opposite side of said means for resetting said sliders when the cassette holder is withdrawn from said casing.
16. A pulse emitting device according to claim 15 in which said casing comprises upper and lower members between which said sliders are disposed, said members having groove means therein in which said sliders are slidable.
17. A pulse emitting device according to claim 12 in which said casing includes guide bars on opposite sides of said cassette holder for guiding said cassette holder in sliding movement in said casing.
18. A pulse emitting device according to claim 12 in which said cassette holder has guides at the sides thereof for engaging the sides of a cassette mounted thereon.
19. A pulse emitting device according to claim 1 which include interlock means in said casing actuated in response to insertion of said control device into operative position in said casing for making the pulse emitting device effective.
20. A pulse emitting device according to claim 19 in which said interlock means includes a switch mounted in the casing.
21. A pulse emitting device according to claim 1 which includes detent means in the casing engaging said control device and operable for releasably retaining the control device in operative position in the casing.
22. A pulse emitting device according to claim 7 which includes means for insuring that the contact springs on the sliders operatively cooperate with said switches in adjusted positions of the sliders.
23. A pulse emitting device according to claim 7 which includes cooperating elements of detent means on said casing and sliders for releasably locating said sliders in adjusted positions thereof.
24. A pulse emitting device according to claim 23 in which said detent means includes leaf spring means in the casing having a spring blade pertaining to each slider.
25. A pulse emitting device according to claim 23 in which said detent means comprises recesses formed on each slider, an element in the casing engaging the recessed side of each slider, and spring means in the casing acting on said elements.
26. A pulse emitting device according to claim 7 in which each slider has a forked shaped spring on one end thereof, each forked shaped spring having contact points thereon cooperating with said switches in each adjusted position of the respective slider.
27. A pulse emitting device according to claim 26 in which each spring is bifurcated and each said slider has apertures therein, the arms of each spring having bosses formed thereon extending through said apertures and forming contact points.
28. A pulse emitting device according to claim 27 in which each boss on each arm of said contact spring comprises parallel sides and a rounded outer end.
29. A pulse emitting device according to claim 28 which includes pins extending transverse to said sliders and fitted in the rounded outer ends of said bosses on the arms of said contact spring.
30. A pulse emitting device according to claim 29 in which each of said bosses has a short leg projecting therefrom on the side opposite the main portion of the respective contact spring.
31. A pulse emitting device according to claim 30 in which each slider has a recess extending into said one end thereof forming a socket in which the respective contact spring is mounted.
32. A pulse emitting device according to claim 26 in which said casing includes a guide plate, columns and rows of guide apertures in said guide plate, a respective slider in each said guide aperture, and cooperating elements of detent means on each slider and said guide plate.
33. A pulse emitting device according to claim 32 which includes conductor plate means with transverse and longitudinal contact regions thereon pertaining to each column of sliders.
34. A pulse emitting device according to claim 33 in which each slider at the end thereof opposite the contact spring comprises means for actuation of the respective slider in the direction of the length thereof.
35. A pulse emitting device according to claim 34 which includes a plurality of said guide plates mounted in a cassette, said cassette having slidable side walls.
