ENVELOPMENT FOR CLOTHING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,509, dated November 1, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANNA G. SPEED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Envelopments for Clothing;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a object is to provide a flexible case or envelope for protecting articles of clothing from dust,
850.; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as hereinafter described, and particularly pointed-out in the claims, reference being had to accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front view of the envelope closed, but not folded; Fig. 2, the same open; Fig. &, the same closed and folded, and Fig. 3 a detail showing a modification adapted more especially for coats and cloaks.
A represents the entire structure and is constructed, preferably, of cloth, rubber, strong paper, or other suitable material and has a back portion F, provided at each end with bars G and G for keeping the same stretched or expanded to its proper form and dimensions, longitudinal or side flaps, D O, and end flaps B E, all arranged to fold inward. The flap D has secured to its front side strapse e, and the flap (J has one or more slits c c 0, arranged opposite to said straps e and through which said straps are passed when the flaps are closed, 0 overlapping D, as will be noted. The end flaps B and E have at their outer ends buckles b b, which when all of the flaps are closed engage the straps c, as will be seen in Fig. 1. At the point where flaps B and E arejoined to back F are placed buckles ff and straps ff', engaging the same for holding the device closed when folded, as seen in Fig. 4. The upper bar G is provided with hooks g g g g, from which various articles of clothing may be suspended; or, if preferred, a single hook may be used and a stretcher l-I suspended therefrom for coats 0r cloaks, as stated. When reduced to smaller compass for carrying in the hand or other purpose, it is folded transversely and the opposite ends secured together by buckles and straps ff, as shown in Fig. 4.
I claim- I 1. An envelopment for clothing, having the following parts in combination,- viz: back F, parallel side flaps D and O and end flaps B and E, and bar G, having one or more hooks g, arranged substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth. 2. In an envelopment for clothing, in com bination with a back portion F, provided with a stretching-bar G, having hooks g, side flaps O and D, having slits c and straps e, respectively, and end flaps B and E, having buckles b, engaging said straps when the flaps are closed, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. 3. As an improved article of manufacture, an envelopmentforclothing, constructed of paper, cloth, rubber, or other suitable material, havinga back portion F,provided with bars G and G, arranged, respectively, at upper and lower ends thereof, the bar G, having hooks attached thereto, as set forth, side flaps Cand D, having slits, and straps passing through said slits, as described, end flaps B and E, having buckles b, engaging said straps e for holding the said flaps closed, and buckles f and straps f engaging therewith, attached to .the outside of and near the intersection of flaps B and E with said back F for holding the envelopment folded when closed and folded, substantially as set forth.
