U TATE PATENT OFFICE.
FELIX KACZYNSKI, OF COI-IOES, NEW YORK.
ENVELOP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX KAozYNsKI, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Cohoes, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had'therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to envelops and the objects of the invention are to provide a safety envelop that can be advantageously used for transmitting valuable matter by mail or express, and to provide an envelop that cannot be surreptitiously opened without detection.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a plan of the envelop blank. Fig. is a similar view of the blank folded and closed. Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the envelop taken on the line X-X of Fig. 2, and Fig. 1 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of the envelop taken on the line i l-WV of Fig. 2.
An envelop in accordance with this invention comprises an oblong blank that is folded to form a front piece 1, an intermediate piece 2 and a back section 3, the intermediate section 2 being folded inwardly upon the dash line 4: onto the back section 3, and then the intermediate section and the back section are folded upon the dash line 5' onto the front piece 1. The upper ends of the sections 1, 2 and 3 are provided with tongues 6, 7 and 8 respectively, the tongue 6 having one side thereof gummed, as at 9, and the tongues 7 and 8 both sides thereof gummed, as at 10, where by said tongues can be moistened, connected after the sections 1, 2 and 3 have been folded and then secured to the back section 3.
The front section 1 has a flap 11 that is adapted to be folded upon the dash line 12,

said flap being gummed, as at 13, whereby it can be moistened and secured to the edge of the back section 8. The lower end of the front section 1 has a flap 14- and this flap is adapted to be folded upon the dash line 15. The flap has a central tongue 16 and the sides thereof slitted, as at 17, to provide auxiliary flaps 18 adapted to be folded upon the dash lines 19.
The lower end of the intermediate section 2 is provided with a tongue 20 having auxiliary flaps 21 adapted to be folded upon the dash lines 22, and besides this tongue there are straps 23. Before folding the sections 1, 2 and 3 the straps 23, which are gummed, are moistened and folded inwardly whereby these straps will adhere to the section 1. After the sections 1, 2 and 3 are folded the tongues 16 and 20 register, and these tongues, are gummed whereby they can be secured together upon the back piece 3. It is preferable to fold the auxiliary flaps 18 and 21 inwardly one upon the other and then secure said auxiliary tongues to the back section 3. The intermediate section 2 assists in preventing a letter placed between. the sections 2 and 3 from being tampered with, even though the flap 11 should be surreptitiously opened.
The envelop can be made of paper, paperoid or other durable material and of various sizes.
What I claim is An envelop comprising a blank adapted to be folded to form a front section, a back sect-ion and an intermediate section, flaps carried by the upper ends of said sections and adapted to be adhesively connected together and folded on and secured to the outer face of the said back section, a tongue carried by said front section and having its side edges slitted to provide auxiliary flaps, a tongue carried by said back section and having its side edges slitted to provide auxiliary flaps, said tongues secured together when the said sections are folded and said auxiliary flaps being folded inwardly and secured together With said tongues secured to said back section, straps carried by said intermediate section and adapted to be folded inwardly and secured upon the inner side of said front section, and a flap carried by said front section and adapted to be adhesively secured to said back section, flaps of the sections, and said tongues, substantially as described. 10 In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
