Racecourse improves transport links after criticism

Following many complaints over previous years, a racecourse has implemented a number of measures to help improve transport to the track.

Cheltenham Racecourse has introduced a new park and ride system, additional coaches and new temporary parking areas at the course.

It has proven to be successful so far, with many racegoers agreeing the park and ride had improved their journeys.

Gemma Steve, regional head of operations at Cheltenham, said: "It's all about making getting to the festival easier and smoother."

She added that reducing the number of vehicles coming to residential areas and allocating clear bus lanes will "take some of that pressure off" for locals.

Ms Steve said that this year the course had deployed the largest hardstanding trackway in Europe, covering "17 football pitches worth".

"I'm very glad, considering we've had snow, that we have this."

For people using the park and ride, they can park at the transport hub and then take a shuttle bus to the racecourse.
