Hungary, Serbia to start construction on oil pipeline by year-end — Szijjarto

The minister explained that this pipeline will carry oil from Russia’s Druzhba pipeline, which runs through Hungary, to Serbia, facilitating oil deliveries to Central Europe via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline

BELGRADE, April 2. /TASS/. Hungary and Serbia plan to start building an oil pipeline between the countries at the turn of this year, Hungary’s Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto said after a meeting with Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic in Belgrade.

Hungarian company MOL presented a feasibility study for the project to the governments of both countries on Wednesday, Szijjarto said. In recent weeks, both parties have taken important steps required for the pipeline’s construction, including territorial planning, the minister noted. "Hence construction may start at the turn of this year - early next year, leading to the creation of a new oil pipeline between the two countries, which will be fully commissioned by 2028," he added.

He explained that this pipeline will carry oil from Russia’s Druzhba pipeline, which runs through Hungary, to Serbia, facilitating oil deliveries to Central Europe via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline.
