NEW YORK, April 6. /TASS/. Washington's Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin has set a record for the most goals scored in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, beating Canadian forward Wayne Gretzky.

The goal in the away match against the New York Islanders was Ovechkin's 895th. Gretzky scored 894 goals. Both players have 1,487 matches to their credit.
