Contains flavin. The enzyme, characterized from the bacterium Clostridium scindens, participates in the bile acid 7alpha-dehydroxylation pathway. The enzyme catalyses the stereo-specific oxidation of its substrates and has no activity with the 7beta anomers. cf. EC
