Physical books are great and all, but wouldn’t it be nice to carry them without the weight? Or better yet, what if you could take your entire library anywhere? The Amazon Kindle offers exactly that with a convenience that got one user to call it their “ultimate e-reader for every book lover.” The famous e-reader still dominates the market due to its lengthy battery life, supreme lightweight, anti-glare and ample 16 GB storage. As our own shopping staff writer and bookworm Haley Zovickian aptly sums up, “the Kindle is an excellent and incomparable tool for enabling us readers to read as much as possible, wherever we are.”
Right now, you can grab the Kindle Paperwhite, the premium version of the OG Kindle with a fully waterproof body, a 7-inch screen (compared to the original’s 6-inch) and a whopping 12-week battery life, on sale at 16% off its typical price — a genuinely good discount, as this model rarely ever goes on sale. Regularly $159.99, this renowned e-reader is down to just $134.99 in its signature black colorway for a limited time.
With a high-resolution, glare-free and paper-like display plus an adjustable built-in light and a dark mode — this e-reader can be used day and night. Its 16 GB of storage is enough to store thousands of books (and .pdfs and documents), and with an added Kindle Unlimited subscription, you can just pull those ebooks from the cloud.
What makes the Paperwhite superior to the basic Kindle are its upgraded features.
While the basic Kindle is water-resistant, the Paperwhite is waterproof, fully protecting it from water damage — great news for those who love reading in the bathtub. The Paperwhite has a 12-week battery life (on a single USB-C charge), compared to the basic model’s six, a larger display, Bluetooth connectivity for listening to audiobooks and an even thinner design for even easier storage and portability.
This small device is also perfect for travelers.
“I’ve had both my 2018 and 2024 models without any protective case and have taken them out to the beach and camping,” explains one reviewer. “I usually just shove them in my travel box with things like other electronics (steam deck + laptop + cables). None of them have a scratch on them and even my 2018 model still looks and works like new. I’m usually an Amazon hardware hater but these Kindles are made out of great-quality material and the batteries can last for weeks on a single charge.”
Act fast and grab the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite at a sweet discount while you can, and read on for more Kindle reviews from avid readers and daily users.
“As someone who has never owned an e-reader, I was pleasantly surprised by how much it positively affected my reading experience. It’s extremely light weight and the display is easy on the eyes especially for those who love to read in the dark. I’ve had the new Kindle Paperwhite for about a month now, and I’ve only charged it once. Despite several weeks of daily use, my battery is at 27%! I highly recommend this device to anyone who is looking for a user-friendly e-reader.” — Lydia K.
“The 12th generation Kindle Paperwhite continues to cement its place as the top choice for e-readers, combining sleek design, enhanced functionality, and a user-friendly reading experience. With notable improvements from previous models, this version is ideal for both avid and casual readers.
Display & Design: The Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen features a 6.8-inch glare-free display, which makes reading under direct sunlight or low-light environments a breeze. The larger screen compared to previous models gives more room for text, making the reading experience feel more like a real book. The warm light adjustable settings are a welcome addition, perfect for those who enjoy reading at night without straining their eyes. “I absolutely love my kindle paper white! I purchased the jade color and it is so beautiful! I am one who would rather have a physical book in my hand. I never thought I would like an E-reader, but this kindle is amazing. I love everything about it and use it every single day. The screen auto adjusts to the lighting. You have the option to put it in light or dark mode. The battery lasts around a month. I use it every day, sometimes for hours at a time. It travels to work with me in my bag easily. I purchased a case for it to protect it as much as possible. Will be purchasing again in the future when this one doesn’t work anymore. Would like to see the on/off button on the bottom center versus on the bottom right. I’m right handed and sometimes turn it off by accident. By no means is that a deal breaker though! Having it in the center on the bottom would accommodate for both left and right handers!” — Raylynn

“The Kindle Paperwhite is my first e-reader, and it’s made a massive difference for me. I had been reading on my iPad Pro and my phone, but this soon took a big toll on my eyes since those screens, even at their warmest settings, are still very blue and bright. My job requires me to look at screens all day, so looking at even more screens for reading in my spare time exacerbated my eye strain issues. Enter the Kindle Paperwhite.
After much deliberation (and too many sore-eyed reading sessions), I decided to take the plunge. I was initially worried that the surface area wasn’t big enough to avoid eyestrain, but this worry was quickly quelled once I had spent some time with the Kindle. It’s roughly the size of a small-medium book, though words do take up more surface area. This is adjustable, however — the customizability of text is amazing for accessibility, with options of adjusting the size, boldness, font (including fonts designed for dyslexic readers!), and spacing between lines. The ability to fine-tune the color temperature and brightness is a godsend. I typically keep my Kindle on level 9 brightness and level 12-14 warmth; this works for most settings, and works even when I’m reading in low light. You don’t have to go deep into bottomless option menus to find these settings, either — you can adjust on the fly by tapping at the top of the screen and using the sliders there.
