We've adapted from a culture of console-based gameplay into mobile maniacs who speed through six levels of Bejeweled Blitz on the morning train commute. And that shift has helped push Apple to embrace traditional controllers in a modern way.
According to PCMag's sister site, IGN, Cupertino has confirmed future devices from Logitech and MOGA, but ClamCase — known mostly for its line of iPad keyboards — beat them to the punch with the new GameCase.
The sleek gadget snaps onto any number of iOS devices, offering the look and feel of a conventional controller, but without the pesky wiring. A completely mobile option, the GameCase goes with you wherever your phone or tablet goes.
Sporting an ultra-responsive classic control pad, console-style XY-AB buttons, full-size dual analog sticks, shoulder buttons, force triggers, and rubberized grips, the controller is still in its final development stages.
IGN reported that the controller-case will connect to the accompanying device via Bluetooth, and is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery.
And once you connect the GameCase to your iDevice, there's no wait for newly developed or updated games: all titles with iOS gamepad support will work — from old-school gems like Pac-Man and Street Fighter to modern first-person shooters.
"Transform your iOS device into the ultimate mobile gaming machine," the GameCase website said. "Play at a whole new level with stunning HD graphics. Experience unprecedented precision with console quality controls. Welcome to the future of mobile gaming."
Pricing and expected availability has not yet been announced, but interested customers can sign up online to be notified when the GameCase hits shelves. The controller will be compatible with the iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 5c, iPad 2/3/4, and iPad mini.

Sony tried its hand at console-like smartphone gaming with the Xperia Play "PlayStation Phone," but has since shifted its focus to the camera with the newly announced Xperia Z1.
