We recently conducted research with 2,000 primary and secondary aged children for Oxford Children’s Word of the Year, and 25% suggested artificial intelligence as their word. As part of the research, the children shared first-hand how they use AI in school, what concerns they have and how they would like to see it shape the future. Read on to hear directly from children on their attitudes to AI. #AI #OxfordCWOTY

Reading for pleasure is at its lowest level since 2019, but recent research from the National Literacy Trust has found that young people have instead found enjoyment in audiobooks and podcasts. With over 40% of children saying that they enjoyed listening vs reading in their free time, audio formats have the potential to support #learning, #wellbeing, and reading engagement.

As a member of the #PublishersAssociation, Oxford University Press strongly supports their response to the UK government’s Copyright and AI consultation. Last week, we also shared details of our own response, stressing our preference for enforcement of the UK’s copyright framework. We’re committed to helping researchers and educators harness the power of AI, however, research and educational publishing is rooted in the principles of quality and trust. This should be on the basis of continued licensing arrangements, supported by appropriate transparency mechanisms, that provide continuing support for those human creators whose work underpins, and will continue to underpin, #AI technology.
