When it comes to writing, we often face a difficult choice. Should you opt for a word or phrase that sounds natural but may be considered grammatically incorrect or do you go with a second option that most consider correct but sounds awkward? In most instances, the answer is to find an often-elusive third option; one with broad appeal (basically, usage choices that sound natural and pass grammatical muster). To simplify your search, Senior Editor Roger Siebert has compiled a list of natural sounding, grammatically correct usage choices in his newest Grammar Tip. This week I had a check-in with a client about the next step in her writing strategy. Would she: 1) go back to the Introduction and try to weave into it this week's piece (on a random topic that had cropped up) or 2) should she go forward to a new chapter whose material she knows really well and use the dynamism and chutzpah that she'd found in last week's writing and ride that wave? I said go for 2). Definitely. When we hold a muscle that is already contracted, and then release the grip on it the muscles learns to let go and extend on the opposite side. We get an opening! So when we are on a literary roll, we should ball up and let the momentum keep us going to a lovely unfolding. We don't want to be like Sisyphus and start rolling the earth up the hill. Again. It sends a message to ourselves that it's okay to dillydally (my technical term for procrastinate). As if editing the same opening paragraph over and over again will get us any further ... Write forward. Do that shitty first draft. Ride the wave of audacity. That is all.

How To Write a Spin-Off From Star Wars to Doctor Who, stories are frequently 'spinning off' their stories into multi-franchise creations. This style of storytelling is a unique form of 'Transmedia' storytelling, one of three types that I've observed. This particular style I've christened 'Exposition in External Mediums'. This post dives into what this type is, and how to properly showcase it. Give it a read, it may go some way to explaining why you're not the die hard Star Wars fan you once were. https://lnkd.in/e8eCpkYs #scriptwriting #screenwriting #transmedia #transmediastorytelling #storytelling #blogpost #StarWars #DoctorWho
