10 March 2025 Exports in January 2025: -2.5% on December 2024

In January 2025, German exports were down 2.5% and imports were up 1.2% on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis compared with December 2024. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that exports decreased by 0.1% and imports rose by 8.7% compared with January 2024.

Microcensus

In the period from January to December, a total of 1% of Germany's population in private households and collective living quarters will be selected using random sampling and the residents surveyed. The results of the microcensus provide the general public, policy-makers and the scientific community with a wide range of information on life in Germany. They serve as an important basis for policy decisions that affect the lives of many people.

What ethical issues need to be considered if artificial intelligence (AI) and its subset machine learning (ML) are used in the production of official statistics? Two articles in the current issue (1/2025) of our scientific WISTA journal discuss this question in depth. The first article identifies ethical issues based on risk scenarios, while the second article looks at these issues individually and examines them in the light of the legislation and quality reference frameworks that currently apply.
