Nice film in which an accountant has to make a factory and its employees work more efficiently. The film is set in the late 60s. A nice story with sympathetic characters. It doesn't have much substance, but it's easy to watch. Nice to see a young Russel Crowe, Toni Collette and Ben Mendelsohn here (all three at the beginning of their careers).

On Sunday afternoon I finished two films that I had received from the cleaning lady, who gave me a pile of films from her sister that were actually meant for the thrift shop but first thought of me. To be honest, there are not many that are great, such as this The Efficiency Expert that initially seems nice because of its considerable cast. But alas...

The story is nevertheless clear with a dying shoe factory in a small bourgeois environment full of eccentric people. It is clear that the factory forms a kind of social hub, where, although not very efficient work is done, life is lived between different classes, fun, jealousy, quarrels and relational concerns. In that sense it is a microcosm in itself that is given shape with a certain humor and eccentricity. The presence of the odd one out Wallace, who hangs over the whole thing like a kind of sword of Damocles, is not exactly appreciated.

And as already said, a decent cast has been brought together for this Australian production, some of whom are at the beginning of their careers but who nevertheless do their best. Apart from that, moments like the final race track are quite nice and the whole thing exudes a certain nostalgia and lightness. But unfortunately there is also a certain predictability and I have to say quite honestly that it can hardly interest me, not even that short playing time of less than an hour and a half, and this is neither fish nor fowl for me. So this is a movie for the statistics, seen one more, scored one more, but in all probability I will forget this very quickly.
