Das Boot plot

"On land they dreamed of being heroes. Beneath the sea they pray to be survivors."

Autumn 1941, La Rochelle on the French coast: 50 German soldiers have a drink and have fun in a French nightclub. For them, this may be the last time as they will board a submarine the next morning to sink as many enemy ships as possible. As U-96 advances over the Atlantic, boredom increases dramatically. However, when after a long time the enemy ships come into view, the boredom of the men turns to fear and nostalgia for home port.

Something long-winded, and a U-boat at 300 depths for 24 hours.. I don't know.. Seems far fetched to me.

Brilliant film, together with Der untergang this belongs to the top of the war films. I fully agree with the review of my Bovenboorman.

Watched it with my 18 year old daughter who was also very impressed, this means the film has stood the test of time well.

Beautiful realistic war/disaster film by Wolfgang Petersen with a beautiful soundtrack.

The film opens with a wild party in a French nightclub where impending doom is drunk and fucked away and where cynicism (and therefore awareness, realism) is already fully present.

Then we get a perpetual view of life in the u-boat. Claustrophobic fear, cynicism, terror, panic, sadness, aggression, friendship, solidarity are all discussed and are wonderfully filled in by the actors. Erwin Leder's breakdown was (one of the many) highlight(s) of the film for me.
