CAVE CO., Patent Trade Mark Attorneys, 1 Alfred Street, S'dney, New South Wales 2000, Australia.
Complete Specification for the invention entitled: IMPROVED PRACTISE EQUIPMENT FOR BALL GAMES The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me:- 1 ASC 49 .1 -0 The present invention relates to an improvement in equipment for ball games, in particular, to improvement in a practise soccer ball.
It is known in games like golf to have a golf ball directly attached to an elastic member such that when the ball is struck by the golf club, the ball travels outwardly away from the ',lub until the returning force of the elastic member pulls the golf ball back towards the golfer. Similar devices are known in respect to cricket and tennis games, such as totem tennis.
The problem with these devices is that the elastic member is permanently affixed to the ball and, thus, the ball cannot be used in its respective game.
The present invention seeks to ameliorate this S disadvantage by providing the combination of a ball and a connector, the ball having a valve means with a passage therethrough, by which means the ball can be inflated said S0 0 C passage comprising an inner section wherein the walls of said passage are releasably sealed and an outer section wherein the Spassage is free and a retaining means located in said outer section adjacent the inner section so as not to obstruct the o o0 passage, said retaining means being adapted to be releasably .o a engaged by said connector inserted into said passage external of the ball, said ball being adapted to be connected to an elastomeric member by said connector; wherein said retaining means 1s an annular member, with a threaded bore being co-axial with that of the said passage, and said connector having an elongated threaded section which is adapted to mate with the )Us 0036k: MMB 2 0

threaded bore of the retaining means.
Throughout the body of the specification, the invention will be described by way of example with reference to a soccer ball. However, the concept of th'. invention will in no way be lim:Lted thereto, as the particular concept shall be deemed to extend to any form of inflatable ball.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, illustrating one ssbodiment of the present invention.
As shown in the accompanying drawing, a soccer ball 1 comprses an outer leather or plastic shell 2 with a conventional inner tube 3 co-operating together to form the iooo conventional ball, with an access hole in the outer shell 2 to S's provide access to the inner tube valve 4. This construction is 0 b" o standard with all convention soccer balls. However, in the embodiment illustrated in the present invention, the valve 4 has located therein a nut 5 located such that its centrally a..
0 threaded bore 6 is aligned with the passage 7 of the valve 4 so as not to interfere with the inflation of the soccer ball. The 0 04 nut may be bonded by glue or welding to the valve material.
Thus, the soccer ball c'n be utilised in soccer matches, while, if the soccer ball is to be utilised as a practise ball, Ou a a connector means 8 with a threaded engaging member 9 can be inserted into the passage 7 and the threaded engaging means 9 threads into the nut at 6, connecting the connecting mean, 8 securely to the soccer ball. The connecting means having a loop 10 or other means whereby an elastomeric cord ;an be fitted thereto.
0036k:MMB 3 z kP/ To return the ball to its normal usage as a soccer ball, the connector member 8 is simply unscrewed from the soccer ball valve 4.
It should be obvious to people skilled in the art that the connector means 8 need not be a nut and screw thread combination, but can be any other suitable engaging means to ensure a quick and easy connection within the valve passage.
