Description
Method for revitalizing hydrophilic adsorbents in Dehydrating Organic Liquids Numerous organic liquids that can be designated as immiscible with water, e.g. B. Benzene and its homologues, Petrol, ether and other hydrocarbons can still manage small amounts of water to contain. This water either arrives in the course of the extraction process or during storage in the liquids and is either homogeneously dissolved therein or in the emulsified state. These small amounts of water are required for many uses be completely or partially removed. There are different treatments for this common. The best known is the drainage with hygroscopic salts, such as Calcium chloride, sodium sulfate, caustic soda or the like, either in the form of anhydrous Salts or concentrated alkalis can be used. The disadvantages that the strongly corrosive chemicals in use have to be used of hydrophilic adsorbents of the type of silica gel (silica gel, silica gel) or aluminum oxide gels, natural silicates and the like neutral behavior in itself are better suited for drainage. These adsorbents, especially the highly active, but because of their price, they can only be beneficial used when revived for multiple use.
It is known to resuscitate the same time with water and organic liquid-laden adsorbent by sequential treatment with steam and hot air or gases. The resuscitation is also known of adsorbents, e.g. B. activated carbon, which is more volatile for recovery organic solvents, with superheated solvent vapors.
The purpose of the present process is to use hydrophilic adsorbents, which are used for draining organic liquids that are immiscible with water have on an easy way to get rid of their water content and thereby revitalized, without simultaneously with the water in the adsorbent containing organic liquid to remove completely. The procedure is through characterized in that hot vapors of the same liquid, for the drying of which the adsorbent was used to be passed through the loaded adsorbent for resuscitation. So if the adsorbent is used, for example, to dehydrate benzene, then so it is revived after the water has been loaded with benzene vapors; becomes toluene dried, toluene vapors are used for resuscitation. As with this procedure the Adsorp. tion agent after expelling the water with the same organic If there is liquid that is to be filtered for dehydration, so it is without further curtains. ready for operation again.
In the event that the temperature of the boiling organic liquid is not sufficient for rapid resuscitation, it has been found to be useful to raise the temperature of the vapors by overheating. The same purpose can go through Distillation can be achieved under pressure.
Even with highly active adsorbents such as silica gel and aluminum oxide gel, Temperatures below 200 C are completely sufficient for resuscitation. On the other hand, can it with high-boiling liquids such. B. high molecular weight oils, be useful, to facilitate the distillation by reducing the pressure.
Example o, skg silica gel in a 250mm high layer, which is used for drainage of technical grade benzene contained 20% water and also about 20% benzene. To revive the silica gel, superheated benzene vapors of around 1700 C were used passed through the gel column, and the escaping mixed benzene-water vapors condensed in a cooler. The condensate separated due to the-different specific gravity into a lower, aqueous and an upper benzene layer. In the course the gel was completely drained by 1 hour. Because the silica gel evenly of benzene was soaked, it could be used again immediately to dry the benzene original effectiveness.
