Abstract
Process for obtaining aromatic alcohols by the liquid phase hydrogenolysis of aromatic hydroperoxides in the presence of palladium catalysts supported on carbon and nitrogen bases at a reaction temperature of between 40 and 120 degree C and preferably between 50 and 90 degree C. These aromatic alcohols, in particular the alcohols 1- phenylethanol, 2-phenyl-2-propanol and 1-p-tolylethanol are important starting materials for the manufacture of vinyl monomers by dehydration.
