Abstract

A bead core assembly comprises a core 1 of rubberised steel wires, at least one layer of rubber 2 surrounding the core, and a fabric cover 3 covering at least 80% of the outer surface of the rubber 2, the rubber 2 and fabric 3 being intended to prevent failures in the bead area due to direct contact of a steel carcass ply and the steel core wires. The rubber 2 has a thickness of 0.1 - 0.7 cm in the areas which come into proximity with a carcass. The fabric 3 may be spirally or envelope wrapped onto the rubber.
