Abstract

A burner (2) directs combustion gases downwardly to a horizontal outlet tube (4) which contains a large number of apertures (8). The gases exit through the apertures and pass over an array of tubes which receive liquefied natural gas through an inlet (13) and a collector (10). The natural gas is heated to a gas state and removed through an upper collector (11) and outlet (14). The inlet collector is formed from an apertured inner tube which passes the liquefied gas to an annular spaced formed by an outer tube. The combustion gases are withdrawn through an upper stack (18). Spiral deflector strips in the tubes (5) in the region of the region of the change of state of the liquefied gas prevent condensation.
