Abstract

4-0- 2',6'Diamino-2',3',6'trideoxy-alpha-D-ribohexopyranosyl -6-0- - 3"-N-methylamino-3"-desoxy-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl -2-desoxystre- ptamine (I). (I) is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, e.G. giving MIC values (mu g/ml.) of =0.4 against Staph. aureus strains (including penicillin- and cephaloxin-resistant), =2 against E. coli strains, and 0.4 against Ps. aeruginosa. In an example, (I) is prepd. starting from methyl 4,6-benzylidene-3-ethoxycarbonylamino-3-desoxy-alpha-D-glucopyran- oside.
