Abstract

Laminated cards incorporate a layer of pressure-sensitive material between layers of transparent and opaque PVC film so that local impact causes a contrasting colourant to be formed or released within the pressure-sensitive layer. Specifically the pressure-sensitive zone incorporates microcapsules contg. a colourless lactone and surrounded by a layer of kaolin or phenolic resin. Alternatively, the microcapsules are immersed in a layer of varnish and the kaolin/phenolic resin is contained in an adjacent layer. The borders of the intermediate layer may be enclosed by a layer of adhesive resin, if the colourant system is moisture-sensitive. The internal inscription is thus protected from damage or erasure.
