Abstract

  The presence of an identifier inserted in a program is indicated for example by the display on the screen of the TV receiver of an icon representative of the proposed service. If the user selects the icon for example using a remote control associated with the TV receiver, it establishes an Internet connection and requires access to the resource corresponding to the inserted URL. The service thus consists in providing the resource indicated by the identifier inserted in the broadcast stream.

  Such interactive TV service delivery systems are described, for example, in EP 0 901 284 and US Pat. No. 6,349,410.

  Inserting the identifier of a service in the broadcast stream causes the service provider to provide the same resource to the users.

  Or it may be interesting that the resource delivered to users is chosen according to factors such as the maximum rate allowed on the communication link between the receiver and the service provider.   For this purpose, according to a first aspect, the invention proposes a method of personalized provision of services to users of television receivers. These receivers are able to receive broadcast television contents in which at least one identifier relating to a service offered by a service provider is inserted. They are connected by a two-way communication link to the service provider through which the service is delivered.

  The method comprises prior steps according to which: at least one generic identifier relating to said service is defined for the service and said generic identifier is associated with a plurality of specific service identifiers each indicating a specific mode of supply of said service; and for each receiver, selecting a unique specific identifier from the plurality of specific identifiers associated with the generic identifier and storing, in a correspondence table associated with said receiver, the generic identifier and the selected specific identifier.

  The method further comprises the following steps: - a television broadcast is inserted into a generic identifier relating to a service and said content is broadcast; the unique identifier associated with the receiver is determined from the generic identifier delivered in the content and from the correspondence table associated with said receiver; and the service corresponding to the generic identifier is provided to the user of said device in accordance with the specific modality indicated by the associated specific identifier.
