Abstract

1,019,059. Tables; seats. P. E. OLSSON. July 9, 1964 [July 19, 1963; April 24, 1964], No. 28265/64. Headings A4H and A4J. Stools and tables are constructed from a kit of hollow parts which are detachably fitted together, the kit including at least two frusto conical main parts 1, 5 and coupling members, such as 8, having a frusto-conical portion. In one embodiment (Fig. 2), a stool comprises a base member 1 with a conical socket 3 in its top and an upper seat 11 supporting frusto conical part 5 the upper part 5 being fitted either within the base socket 3 or in a similar socket 10 formed in an intermediate part 8 fitted over the base part 1, the parts being wedged together due to their flexibility. The parts may be additionally locked by a coupling member extending through central apertures. Two similar frusto conical main parts 5, 5a (Fig. 3, not shown) may be stiffly coupled to form a bi-conic stool, sheet metal cones 17 being fitted over the adjacent smaller ends of the cones 5, 5a and identical interengaged conical coupling members 12, 15 being fitted within the cones 5, 5a. The inner cones 12, 15 have interengaging claws 13, 13a and have aligned sleeves 21 to receive a bolt 18 which clamps washers 20 lightly against the ends of the sleeves 21. In another embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) metal cones 17 are clamped to a base 5 between threadedly engaged coupling members 22, 24 which are centrally apertured to locate a rod 25 depending from a stool top 26. In a further embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) a table top 27 is supported on a base 5 having a single metal cone 17 and coupling members 22, 24 (as in Fig. 6) and is locked in its desired vertical position by a screw clamp 28. This locking arrangement may alternatively be employed to adjust the height of a stool top.
